Abu Dhabi Airport and Masdar completed the development of the UAE’s largest solar parking lot at Abu Dhabi International Airport. This 3 MW project involves the installation of solar panels on the canopy of the parking lot of the airport’s new midfield terminal.

Shareef Al Hashmi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airport, said: "Zero network development has always been the core spirit of the design and construction of the midfield terminal." Continuous selection, we adopted double glazing, high-efficiency lighting and environmental control, and achieved a substantial reduction in the wider energy use of the building. The energy generated by the grid-connected project will be used to power the parking lot, and the excess energy will be transmitted to other parts of the airport.

$19.9 billion investment

According to the statement, the project was funded and constructed by Masdar. The company will also provide operations and maintenance services for a period of 25 years. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, said: "The delivery of this landmark project of the new midfield terminal highlights the importance of Masdar and Abu Dhabi airports. The commitment to support the UAE’s 2050 energy strategy and its climate change mitigation goals also shows Masdar’s strength as the preferred partner for cooperation in renewable energy projects. The UAE’s goal is to increase the contribution of renewable energy to this level by 2050. About 50% of China’s energy mix.

Abu Dhabi Airport was established in 2006 to develop Abu Dhabi’s aviation infrastructure and currently manages and operates five airports in the UAE. The company is also building a new hub for Emirates flag carrier Etihad Airways at Abu Dhabi International Airport-the midfield terminal, which can accommodate 45 million passengers each year. Abu Dhabi Airport is wholly owned by the state-owned holding company ADQ, while Masdar is owned by Mubadala Investment Company.

Masdar is currently active in more than 30 countries, with a total renewable energy capacity of 10.7 million kilowatts and a total investment of approximately US$19.9 billion. It is also involved in the development of the world's largest solar power plant in Dhafra, Abu Dhabi. The 2 gigawatt power plant is expected to be fully operational next year.

Earlier in 2021, Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) completed the first launch of Siemens Energy’s H-class gas turbine. The turbine is located at EGA’s Jebel Ali plant. The power plant is under development at a cost of 1 billion Dimas ($272 million). , The company’s goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its power generation and aluminum smelting operations. Earlier in 2021, German car manufacturer BMW also signed an agreement with EGA to purchase metals for solar manufacturing. Editor/XuNing
