Gulf Development International (GDI) announced plans to build one of the largest volume modular assembly plants in the world. The project will be formed in the city of Neom, worth 500 billion U.S. dollars in Saudi Arabia. According to a statement, the $1 billion factory project is expected to be completed on a 1.4 million square meter site in Neom. GDI CEO George Creel said that once the plant is operational, it will be able to produce as many as 12,500 modular equipment per year.

The statement explained that GDI has also established Gulf Modular Industries, a licensed Saudi entity that will operate the plant. Creel pointed out that the plant will be Neom's first plant to break ground. It will employ nearly 2,200 employees through a combination of technology and high-tech work, with a focus on creating opportunities and training for Saudi citizens. Commenting on this initiative, Neom CEO Nadhmi Al Nasr pointed out: "I am proud to welcome GDI to our global project. We are building our community with the most advanced technology and modern construction methods. This partnership has touched All pillars of Neom: enabling us to build a community with extraordinary livability, GDI and other innovative companies can thrive while reshaping the industry.
Build a new modular system
Creel described the new gigabit plant as "an efficient ecological miracle." According to Creel, GDI will use the facility to build a new volumetric modular system to support the construction of tens of thousands of houses and dozens of hotels for Neom, which is the cornerstone of the 2030 Vision. The goal is to produce modules to support other gigabit projects and initiatives in Saudi Arabia and export them throughout the region. He said that production will start at the end of 2022.

Creel added that GDI arranged private sector financing for the transaction. He pointed out that this shows Neom's economic fundamentals and the strength of venture capital. The statement stated that DLA Piper provided GDI with legal assistance for the factory project. He concluded: "In the next three years, GDI expects Neom's demand for factory output to quadruple, which will enable GDI to attract more foreign direct investment to meet strong demand.
