On the morning of June 28, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony of the main project of the Changsha Airport Reconstruction and Expansion Project Comprehensive Transportation Hub (GTC) was officially held. In the future, the Changsha Airport Comprehensive Transportation Center will integrate 4 types of ground transportation and 4 types of rail transportation, making it one of the airports with the most transportation modes in China.

Changsha Airport Reconstruction and Expansion Project

The reconstruction and expansion project of Changsha Airport is designed to meet the target of 60 million passengers and 600,000 tons of cargo and mail in 2030. The main construction content includes airport engineering, air traffic control engineering, fuel supply engineering, automobile gas station engineering, of which the total investment of the airport engineering is 42.96732 billion yuan. Among them, the comprehensive transportation hub project (GTC) has a total construction area of 285,000 square meters, which is integrated with the terminal building and is connected without boundaries. It includes 46,000 square meters of comprehensive transportation center (including 3 million square meters of staff canteens) and parking buildings. 160,000 square meters and 79,000 square meters of overnight guest rooms. The comprehensive transportation hub project is divided into two floors above ground and three floors underground.

The second floor above ground is a large passage layer connecting the terminal building, parking building, and passenger overnight rooms, and is connected to the domestic arrival floor; the first floor above ground is connected to the international arrival floor, with taxis, long-distance buses, airport buses, social buses, and Internet appointments. Car waiting and pick-up points; the first underground floor is the rail transfer hall, which is connected to the subway, maglev, and high-speed railway station halls; the second underground floor is the subway platform floor; the third underground floor is the high-speed rail and maglev platform floor.

The integrated transportation center will be more comfortable, safer, more convenient, and more compact, realizing the diversion of people and vehicles, and the full-process indoor space. Passengers only need to walk for 5 minutes, and they can easily transfer to four types of rail transportation: subway, maglev, intercity express, and high-speed rail, and four types of ground transportation: taxi, airport bus, long-distance bus, and social vehicles. "Zero-distance transfer" "Seamless connection" will be the most authentic experience for passengers. The transfer convenience of the comprehensive transportation hub center will reach the industry-leading level. Information sharing can be realized in all areas of the airport, and all kinds of flight information and traffic information are readily available.

According to the plan, the projects to be implemented in the near future include rail connection to the Changsha-Ganxi Railway (Chongqing-Changsha High-speed Railway), Changsha Metro Line 6, Changsha Maglev East Extension Line, and Changsha Metro Line 10 and the City Express Line are reserved in the long term. By then, Changsha Airport will become a modern three-dimensional integrated transportation hub with the most domestic transportation modes, opening up a new integrated transportation mode of air-magnet-rail-ground transportation in Hunan.
