On July 6, 2021, as an important part of the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project, the first phase of the Pihe Water Supply Project, which was constructed for 6 years, was put into use. The water diversion hub of the first phase of the Pihe water supply project is located in Goujiatan, Xindu District, Chengdu, in the middle reaches of the Pihe River. The main canal of the project runs from west to east through the Chengdu Plain, Chuanlongquan Mountain, across the Tuojiang River, and along the Tuojiang Watershed to Chaoyang Reservoir in Anyue County, Ziyang City. The construction of the project started in 2015, and 20 backbone water channels with a total length of 381 kilometers were completed, of which the total length of the main canal is 156 kilometers. After the project is watered, it will provide 433 million cubic meters of water to the three cities of Chengdu, Ziyang, and Suining each year, and improve the irrigation area of 1.25 million mu, benefiting 2.25 million urban and rural residents.

Peng Qinghua pointed out that the Pihe Water Supply Project is a key backbone project in Sichuan Province to construct a "five horizontal and six vertical" water diversion and water supplementation ecological water network. Chengdu is the beneficiary area of the Pihe water supply project, especially the Jianyang Hedong area lacks large and medium-sized backbone water conservancy projects, with poor source storage, low drought resistance, and shortage of water for production and living, which restricts economic and social development to a certain extent.

After the first phase of the Pihe Water Supply Project is completed, 93.7 million cubic meters of water can be supplied to Jianyang and other areas each year, with an irrigation area of 239,600 mu and a population of 410,000. It will effectively optimize the allocation of regional water resources, improve the ecological environment, and protect agriculture. Irrigation promotes high-quality economic and social development in Chengdu.

The first phase of the Pihe water supply project in Chengdu mainly includes the Goujiatan water diversion hub and 119.72 kilometers of channels in Xindu District, passing through Xindu District, Qingbaijiang District, Jintang County, and Jianyang City, with a total investment of 2.2 billion yuan.

Ziyang: Benefiting 1.51 million urban and rural population, alleviating nine droughts in ten years.

In Ziyang, the first phase of the Pihe Water Supply Project consists of 12 main canals, Xinsheng Filling Canal, and Shilihe Filling Canal. The total length of the main canal is 81 kilometers and the other canals are 207 kilometers long. The approved investment is 1.88 billion yuan.

Due to its location in the watershed, Ziyang’s per capita water resources account for only 1/5 of the national per capita water resources, and 1/6 of the province’s per capita water resources. “One major drought in ten years, two droughts in three years, dry winter and spring drought. "See you every year" is a true portrayal of Ziyang.

The first phase of the Pihe Water Supply Project will benefit the 1.51 million urban and rural populations of Lezhi County, Anyue County, and Yanjiang District in Ziyang, as well as 563,000 mu of irrigated area, which will greatly alleviate the status quo of "nine droughts in ten years" in arid areas. After the completion of the second phase of the project, the overall function of the Pihe Water Supply Project will be fully utilized. It will benefit 4.89 million people in arid areas and achieve an irrigation area of 4.17 million mu, which will completely solve the "water shortage" in the arid area of central Sichuan. bitter".

Suining: The total annual water supply is 81.58 million cubic meters, which will make up for the water shortage.

In Suining, the uneven distribution of water resources in time and space is prominent. For many years, the per capita water resources have only accounted for 1/10 of the province. The annual water demand is 1.15 billion cubic meters and the water shortage is 250 million cubic meters. The Suining section of the first phase of the Pihe Water Supply Project has a total length of 54.9 kilometers and a total investment of 790 million yuan. It involves Anju District and Daying County. The total annual water supply is 81.58 million cubic meters and the controlled irrigation area is 246,000 mu.

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, Suining City vigorously promoted the construction of water conservancy projects such as the Pengchuan Irrigation District and the Pihe Water Supply Phase I, completed an investment of 8.67 billion yuan, increased and restored 200 million cubic meters of water storage capacity The effective irrigated area is 448,000 mu, alleviating the situation of relying on the sky for food and watching the water.
