On July 8, 2021, the delivery ceremony of the Three Gorges Rudong Offshore Converter Station will be held at Nantong Zhenhua Heavy Equipment Terminal. This is by far the world’s largest offshore converter station and Asia’s first offshore converter station, which will provide China with the opportunity to enter the field of deep sea and open sea wind power development. Solid equipment and technical support.
The Three Gorges Rudong Offshore Converter Station project includes three parts: foundation piles, jackets and upper modules. Among them, the upper module of the converter station is 89 meters long, 84 meters wide, 44 meters high, and has a total weight of 22,000 tons. The plane area is close to a standard football field, and the height is about the same as a 15-story residential building.
As the "heart" of the entire offshore converter station, in the future, it will be responsible for gathering 1,100 megawatts of power from the three major offshore wind farms of Rudong H6, H8, and H10, and transporting the power to land through DC submarine cables. It is China's first plus or minus 400 kV flexible DC transmission offshore wind power project, with a DC submarine cable transmission distance of about 100 kilometers, which is currently the domestic DC transmission submarine cable with the highest voltage level and the longest transmission distance.
It is worth mentioning that this project is also the “concrete practice” of Three Gorges Group helping Jiangsu to take the lead in achieving the goal of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality”. After the project is completed and connected to the grid, the annual on-grid power will reach 2.4 billion kWh, which can meet the demand The annual electricity consumption of 990,000 households has significant effects on energy conservation and emission reduction.
