The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway is the backbone of the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" of the national mid- and long-term railway network planning. It is an important part of the coastal and Beijing-Shanghai auxiliary channels. It is the intercity backbone of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. It is a road network function. It is a backbone line of high-speed railway that takes into account inter-city functions. Mainly responsible for the passenger flow at the road network level of the riverside channel and the coastal and Beijing-Shanghai auxiliary channels to connect to the Shanghai level.

The Shanghai section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chongqing high-speed rail is planned to enter the Chongming District of Shanghai from Qidong City, Jiangsu Province to the south, and then enter Taicang City, Jiangsu Province after crossing the Yangtze River estuary, and then southward into Jiading District and Baoshan District of Shanghai. Route direction: Qidong-Chongming-Taicang-Baoshan
The Shanghai-Chongqing High-speed Railway from Qidong City, Jiangsu Province crosses the north branch of the Yangtze River in an elevated form to the Chongming District of Shanghai, travels southwest in the Chongming District, and crosses the south of the Yangtze River in an underground form after setting up Chongming Station on the northwest side of Chengqiao Town. The branch entered Taicang City, Jiangsu Province.

After passing by Taicang Station, the second phase of the Hutong Railway will enter the Jiading District of Shanghai on the west side of Liuxiang Highway. After crossing the Liuxiang Highway, it will pass through Baoqian Highway, Shengzhu East Road, and southward along the west side of S7 Hu-Chong Expressway. Enter Baoshan District after Jialuo Highway. After the line continues to cross Yueluo Highway and the planned Jiazhan Highway, it crosses S7 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway and G1503 Shanghai Ring Expressway to the southeast, then turns to east-west direction, travels eastward along the south side of G1503 Shanghai Ring Expressway, and passes through Shanghai-Taiwan Highway in turn. , Panjing Road, Fuchang Road, Wenchuan Road, Jiangyang North Road and enter Baoshan Station.

The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chongqing high-speed rail terminal is Baoshan Station. After the second phase of the Shanghai-Chongqing Railway passes through Baoshan Station, it continues eastward and connects to the Shanghai East Railway Station hub. The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chongqing high-speed railway is about 51 kilometers in length in Shanghai, of which the length in Chongming District is about 25.5 kilometers, the length in Jiading District is about 10.7 kilometers, and the length in Baoshan District is about 14.8 kilometers.
