SAPRO Mayoko (a subsidiary of Sapro Group and the first iron ore producer and exporter in Congo) and Thelo DB (a partnership of Thelo Ventures (Pty) Limited and Deutsche Bahn, represented by DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH) signed An agreement of nearly US$1.1 billion is used to build a new 412-km Mayoko-Pointe Noire port railway in the southwest of Congo. The agreement was signed by Paul Obambi, CEO of Sapro Mayoko SA, and Ronny Ntouli, CEO of Thelo DB, both of whom welcomed the decision.

Expectations for the new railway

The new Mayoko to Pointe Noire port railway is 412 kilometers long and will be completed within five years. After that, it will help the evacuation of about 12 million tons of iron from southwest Congo every year, thereby improving the activities of the Sapro Group subsidiary that operates the Mayoko iron deposit.

SAPRO Mayoko SA is the only company operating Congolese iron ore in Mayoko near the Gabon border. It acquired the Mayoko iron deposit from South African mining company Exxaro DMC in 2016, with an initial production capacity of 3 million tons of iron per year. The long-term production goal of the Congolese company is 150 million tons per year.Editor/GongYan
