On July 16, 2021, the national carbon market officially opened.
Local pilot projects for China's carbon market started in 2011. In October of that year, the seven provinces and cities of Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangdong, Hubei, and Shenzhen launched local pilot projects for carbon emissions trading.
