Artemis Gold has obtained an early work permit for its 100% owned Blackwater Gold project from the Government of British Columbia, Canada. Approval is the first step required for the construction of an open-pit mine, and it allows the company to begin the required site preparation and land clearing work.
Artemis Gold estimates that the current five-year initial development fund for the project is 592 million Canadian dollars (470.94 million U.S. dollars) to achieve an annual output of 5.5 million tons. The company has applied for an early engineering permit in February 2021, one year ahead of the planned construction date. The company said at the time that after obtaining the permit, it will focus on cleaning up transportation roads, phase I tailings storage facilities and camping areas related to the project.
The Governor of British Columbia, John Hogan, said: “Advancing the Blackwater Gold Project will help unleash the enormous economic potential of the Cariboo area in British Columbia. Mining and mineral exploration are fundamental parts of our economy and will help us build a better A stronger and more sustainable British Columbia allows everyone to benefit from our recovery." The Blackwater Gold project has 8.2 million ounces of proven and probable mineral reserves and 60.8 million ounces of silver.
According to the British Columbia Government, the Blackwater Gold Mine is expected to be the largest mine development project in the Caribou region in the past 10 years. According to a study by KPMG, the gold project will generate 457 direct full-time positions each year during its 23-year mining operation and 825 direct full-time positions each year during its construction/expansion phase.
