On June 15, 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 16000 ton deep-sea self propelled cable laying ship was held in Nantong. The ship was designed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's 708 Research Institute and is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2027, meeting the classification standards of China Classification Society. The total length of the vessel is 161.8 meters, with a maximum cable carrying capacity of 16000 tons. It has unlimited navigation capacity and is equipped with a fully electric propulsion system, which can achieve DP2 level power positioning. The vessel supports the laying of 3000 meter ultra deep water submarine cables, which will help enterprises achieve full chain operation of deep and offshore engineering after being put into use, and explore the market of deepwater offshore engineering at home and abroad. On June 16, 2026, the CGN Golmud 350 MW solar thermal demonstration project officially started construction, breaking two global records: the largest single unit thermal storage capacity and the largest mirror field area. The project is equipped with a 15 hour molten salt thermal storage device with a thermal storage capacity of 11747 megawatt hours. The estimated annual power generation is 1 billion kilowatt hours, equivalent to saving 320000 tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 860000 tons. It will significantly enhance the new energy consumption and peak shaving capacity of Qinghai power grid. Editor/Cheng Liting
