The South African National Ports Authority has signed a 25 year terminal operation agreement with Ukwanda LNG to construct an onshore LNG regasification facility at the Ngula Port, with a total investment of approximately 22 billion rand, including 2 billion rand dedicated LNG berths, with the goal of full operation by 2035. This project is a core component of South Africa's Fair Energy Transition Plan, which will support a 3 GW natural gas power generation quota to supply gas to the Koka Special Economic Zone. It is expected to produce approximately 3.5 GW of electricity, create over 500 jobs during the construction period, and provide 50 permanent jobs upon completion. Editor/Cheng Liting
Recently, the Kipsi mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo launched a tender for 10MW photovoltaic+200MWh energy storage, jointly promoted by Ivanhoe Mines and Congo National Mining Corporation, with plans to put it into operation by the end of 2027. This century old zinc mine will resume production in November 2024, with output soaring from 20000 tons to 203000 tons by 2025, with a target of 290000 tons by 2026. At present, mines rely on hydropower, and light storage projects will promote their transformation towards green and low-cost operations. Editor/Cheng Liting
