On January 16, 2026, storage chip giant Micron Technology officially started construction of its giant wafer fab in New York State, USA. The total investment of this project is as high as 100 billion US dollars, making it the largest private investment project in the history of New York State. The factory will include four advanced manufacturing facilities aimed at meeting the demand for storage chips in rapidly growing fields such as artificial intelligence.
According to reports, the plan was delayed for about a year and a half due to environmental assessment. According to the latest plan, the first factory is scheduled to start production in 2030, and it is expected to create approximately 9000 job opportunities after completion by 2045. Micron's move aims to expand its market share in the global high bandwidth storage and DRAM markets, challenging the current landscape dominated by Samsung and Hynix. Editor/Gao Xue
