[COSCO Shipping Wins the Bid for Saudi Aramco Offshore Oilfield Services Project]Recently, Chinese company COSCO Shipping and Special Transportation received a contract from Saudi Aramco to expand its Marion offshore facilities, further consolidating Beijing's economic role in the region. The company provides ship transportation services and is one of the largest companies in the world, providing two semi submersible vessels for transportation and installation services for the development of Marian facilities. This contract is related to the "support package one" of the $12 billion Marian crude oil incremental program, aimed at increasing the facility's oil production by 300000 barrels per day and increasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) production by 360000 barrels per day. This will result in an estimated oil production of 800000 barrels per day. The contract awarded to COSCO will support the construction of the new Marjan GOSP-4 platform, which can handle 470000 barrels of oil, 813000 barrels of liquefied natural gas and 750 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. A key technological breakthrough aimed at the future of offshore wind power has officially begun in Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone by the Bohai Bay. On December 13, 2025, the "Development and Demonstration Application of Offshore Grid Wind Turbine Equipment" project was launched here, with the core goal of developing the world's leading 25 MW offshore grid wind turbine, providing a strong "heart" for China's wind power to move towards deep sea.
The project is led by CSSC Haizhuang Wind Power (Shandong) Co., Ltd. and collaborates with multiple top research institutions to tackle a series of technical challenges, including grid control and high stability design of 150 meter long blades. Project leader Cai Meiyuan explained that grid building technology is like installing a "smart brain" for wind turbines, enabling them to transform from passive adaptation to the power grid to active support, effectively solving the stability challenges brought by the long distance and weak grid connection of offshore wind power.
The project plan is clear, and after industrialization, it is expected to have an annual production capacity of 20 units (totaling 500 megawatts), with the potential to increase operating revenue by over 1 billion yuan and drive the development of the wind power industry chain cluster. It is worth noting that since 2025, key components such as the lightweight spindle, giant tower flange, and full power grid converter of this model have been successfully developed and produced, marking the launch of this "national heavy machine" representing China's high-end manufacturing level, which is not far away.
