[Mauritania launched a large-scale renewable energy hydrogen storage project]Denmark's GreenGo has launched the Megaton Moon project in Mauritania, a 60 GW solar-wind power facility equipped with 35 GW of green hydrogen capacity. The project developer submitted a development application to the Mauritanian Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Mines this week. The Megaton Moon project will be built in several phases, with the initial pilot phase expected to be completed in 2028 and the final phase to be completed between 2033 and 2035. In addition, the project will generate more than 70 million tons of desalinated water per year, which will be three times the amount of water consumed by the Megaton facility to produce green hydrogen itself. GreenGo said the project will also use more than 10 TWh of surplus energy to promote the development of large-scale agricultural industries and local supply chains in the desert region. "Developing a project of this scale requires close cooperation with the supply chain and purchasers," said Anders Heine Jensen, CEO of GreenGo. "The scale of the project will attract manufacturers to produce photovoltaic panels, wind turbine blades and electrolytic components locally. The ship adopts a single-layer deck design, which can carry more than 160 new energy vehicles on a single voyage under full load conditions. The parking capacity is about 60% higher than that of existing passenger and roll on/roll off transport ships. The ship is planned to be deployed on the route from Hai'an New Port in Zhanjiang to Xiuying Port in Haikou. After being put into operation, it will add a new mode of sea transportation for new energy vehicles in the Qiongzhou Strait and effectively alleviate the tense situation of insufficient capacity for new energy vehicle transportation during the peak period of cross sea vehicle transportation in the Qiongzhou Strait.
